Title 29

Title 29 In-State Tuition Exemption

Louisiana’s Title 29 in-state tuition exemption benefit offers educational assistance for children, spouses and surviving spouses of veterans who meet certain requirements. The Title 29 benefit can be used in conjunction with GI Bill® benefits, and more than 4,200 veteran dependents are currently receiving Title 29 benefits.

Eligibility and Residency Requirements

For living veterans, children are eligible; for veterans who are POW/MIA, spouses are eligible; and for deceased veterans, surviving spouses and children are eligible. Eligibility requirements are different for living and deceased veterans.

Eligibility for Title 29 education benefits also require that veterans meet residency requirements.

How to Apply

To apply, contact your parish veterans service office to schedule an appointment with a veterans assistance counselor. Our VAC will let you know what you need to bring to the appointment, at which time the veterans assistance counselor will determine eligibility and approve or deny the application. If the application is approved, the VAC sends the certificate to LDVA headquarters for processing. The certificate is then mailed to the student, and the student must take it to their school’s administrative office which handles Title 29.
