Education

Assisting you in your educational journey
There are state and federal educational benefits for Louisiana veterans and their dependents who are considering furthering their education. State benefits include Title 29 In-State Tuition Exemption and Louisiana In-State Tuition Status, while federal benefits include multiple chapters of the GI Bill® and more.

State Educational Benefits

Title 29 In-State Tuition Exemption

Louisiana’s in-state tuition exemption, Title 29, provides educational benefits for children, spouses and surviving spouses of veterans who meet certain eligibility requirements. For living veterans, children are eligible. For veterans who are prisoners of war or missing in action, spouses are eligible, and for deceased veterans, surviving spouses and children are eligible. Eligibility for Title 29 education benefits require that veterans meet residency requirements, and requirements are different for living and deceased veterans.

Louisiana In-State Tuition Status

In-state tuition status is granted to veterans, spouses, children of veterans and active-duty military who are eligible for federal educational benefits.

Student Veteran Centers

Many of Louisiana’s colleges and universities staff student veteran centers, specifically serving veterans and veteran dependents. These centers serve as a hub for veteran activity on campus with staff entirely focused on fostering students’ successful paths to graduation and beyond.

Federal Educational Benefits

GI Bill®

The GI Bill® helps veterans pay for school tuition and fees to further their educational journey. Currently, there are nearly 260 active educational facilities in Louisiana certified by the state approving agencies (SAA) with more than 10,700 veterans and veteran dependents utilizing their GI Bill® benefits. These students bring in more than $196 million in federal dollars from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, contributing to the billions veterans bring into Louisiana annually.
