The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs veterans homes provide a unique environment where veterans are able to live alongside their brothers and sisters and arms. We operate five veterans homes located across the state:

Eligibility

Louisiana veterans who are honorably discharged, wartime or peacetime, and who served 90 days of active duty; spouses of veterans; and Gold Star parents are eligible to live in a veterans home. Individuals interested in living in a veterans home can complete an admissions applicationĀ and submit it to the veterans home of their choice listed above.

Why We’re Unique

There are many reasons why our veterans homes are unique with the most prominent reason being cost. The cost to live in a veterans home is much less than a traditional nursing home as they typically charge $6-7,000 a month or more as their private rate.

Our veterans home also have:

  • Veterans assistance counselors on staff to work with veterans regarding the benefits they have earned from their service
  • 24/7 RN coverage
  • Full-time pharmacist and pharmacy tech
  • Full-time dietician
  • Full-time master’s level social worker
  • Memory care wing for Alzheimer’s or dementia-related diagnoses
  • Ability for veterans to live among other veterans

Fees

Our fees are as follows:

  • Veterans with a VA service-connected rating of 70-100% can live in our veterans homes free of charge.
  • Veterans who have a VA service-connected rating below 70% can live in our veterans homes for a monthly fee of $2,358. The fee can be offset by applying and qualifying for federal Aid and Attendance. Pension. *This fee is set by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and changes annually.
