The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery opened in June of 2014 and has quickly become the fastest-growing state veterans cemetery in Louisiana. As initial burial sites are occupied, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairsā National Cemetery AdministrationĀ provides grants to add additional burial space to meet the goal of keeping all burial options available.
When you visit the cemetery, you will see our Carillon Bell Tower, generously donated by AMVETS when the cemetery first opened. The bell tower is located in Memorial Circle, a serene and reflective area that honors those who serve our veterans even after their time in uniform. Memorial Circle features benches for seating, a garden with trees and a brick walkway engraved with names, all made possible through donations from Heroās Farewell.
At the heart of Memorial Circle stands a striking Global War on Terrorism Battlefield Cross bronze monument, also donated by Heroās Farewell. This powerful sculpture features a pair of combat boots, a rifle standing upright between them and a helmet resting on topāa solemn and timeless symbol of respect and sacrifice for those who gave their lives in post-9/11 conflicts. Unique to this monument, the names of every Louisiana service member killed in action during the Global War on Terrorism are listed on the base of the monumentās pillar, ensuring their memory is permanently honored in the soil they once called home.
Nearby, you will also find a peaceful fountain, located next to the committal shelter, which was donated by the Knights of Columbus, offering a tranquil space for quiet reflection.
We are truly blessed to have some of the finest veteran organizations as partners in creating and maintaining an honorable final resting place for our local heroes. The staff at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery is here to help veteran families in their time of need.
