The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery was made possible by a generous donation of 52 acres from the George B. Franklin Jr. Family. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, in conjunction with funding from the State of Louisiana through the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, provides grants to ensure all present and future veterans receive the dignified burial and final resting place of honor that they deserve. The cemetery is designed to accommodate more than 31,000 veterans along with spouses and dependent children.
Our first interment was held on Nov. 11, 2015, and services have been conducted every Monday through Friday since our opening day. Shortly after opening, the Herbert Hayes Family made a large donation in memory of Mr. Hayes, which established the Herbert Hayes Heroes Fund. This fund continues to grow and is used to aid the cemetery’s landscaping needs throughout the year. In addition to the donation from the Hayes family, our Carillon Bell Tower was donated by AMVETS with contributions from both state and national levels. The chimes are played daily on the hour using hymns, songs and military arrangements.
Over the years, we have received two Operational Excellence Awards from the federal VA’s National Cemetery Administration, and we are grateful for the hard work of our staff. We consider it an honor and privilege to help veterans and their families in their time of great need.

How to Help
We welcome volunteers who want to honor our veterans by helping to maintain the dignity of our cemetery grounds. Volunteers are especially appreciated on event days such as Memorial Day and Wreaths Across America Day, where extra hands help make these important ceremonies possible. We also accept weekday volunteers to assist with tasks such as cleaning headstones, planting flowers, weeding and general grounds maintenance. Contact us to find out how you can help.
