BATON ROUGE – Veterans Day is an opportunity to celebrate America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Each year, the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs offers Louisianans many ways to demonstrate their appreciation of these brave men and women all across the state.
LDVA has a saying: “To us, every day is Veterans Day, and every day is Memorial Day.” And, our mission is clear as LDVA’s team members provide comprehensive care and quality service to Louisiana’s Veterans, and their families, with regard to health care, education, disability benefits, long-term care, and burial honors.
“I’m proud of all that this Department accomplished, of the new initiatives we introduced to help us to reach women veterans incarcerated veterans, students veterans, and our Gold Star families, and I am proud of my team and all that they do for Louisiana’s veterans,” said LDVA Secretary Joey Strickland. “As we get closer to celebrating Veterans Day, we encourage each of you to come out to one of the many events happening across our state and thank the men and women who fought for our freedoms.”
The LDVA Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. United States Air Force (Ret.) Brig. Gen. Michael A. Cushman will be our keynote speaker, Louisiana Women Veterans will be presenting the colors, WWII U.S. Navy veteran, Chief Bosun’s Mate, retired, Frank Masanz will be leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Community Outreach Academy – Charlie’s Kings Kid’s Bell Choir will be performing patriotic songs throughout the ceremony.
